Yellow and Gray Inspiration Board

Check out my cake in this inspiration board! I'm so pleased to see my design in a bride's inspiration board from WeddingWire.com (a Martha Stewart wedding planning website). What a great way to view the details of a wedding together. I wish I knew about this when I was planning my own wedding!

Tiger Lily Cake

It was definitely a hot summer day last Saturday but nevertheless a beautiful one for a wedding! I was happy to make this cake for the bride who had exquisite taste.

Her colors were orange and gray and she wanted a cake that was inspired by her wedding gown. She showed me a picture of her wedding gown which had miniature ribbon bows cascading down her dress. It was so beautiful and unique, we both decided that would be a pretty detail on her cake too! So I made these sugar bows and added silver sugar dragees to make it extra special.

And of course, there had to be a sugar flower to "accessorize" and finish her cake! I made the hand-sculpted tiger lily, inspired by the tiger lilies in her bouquet, and placed it on the side of the top tier.

I delivered the cake to Riverdale Manor (Lancaster, PA) which had a beautifully decorated ballroom and a wonderful staff too! Thank you to the banquet managers who were so nice and friendly! It was a breeze setting up the cake and before I knew it, it was time to take a picture...

Here Lies Her Youth

"Can you make a tombstone cake?" A client asked one morning over the phone this summer. It was a for a birthday and I thought, "That would be a fun cake to make." And I did have fun making it because it reminded me of the movie Corpse Bride which i love! Here's the finished tombstone cake made with Red Velvet Cake and Raspberry Buttercream Filling - a surprisingly delicious combination.

A note from a happy bride

"The cake was delicious and beautiful!
The sugar flowers were exquisite and the design was beautiful!
Thanks, Faye, for a great cake!" -Sarah

After putting the finishing touches on a cake, I always take a step back to view it and make sure that everything is right and beautiful -- just the way the bride (and groom!) would want their cake. I always hope that they would love it. And after every cake is delivered and the wedding ends, I wonder "Were they happy with their cake? Did they enjoy eating it?"

So it is quite a pleasure to hear from the bride after the wedding. Not only do I appreciate the feedback, I also enjoy listening to the happy voice of the bride as she retells the special moments of her wedding day. To be able to take part in making their wedding memorable is such an honor.

Above is a cake that I made last June and a note from the bride that I'd like to share. The pink sugar lisianthus flowers matched the flower arrangements at her reception and the fondant lace appliques were inspired by the lace on her wedding dress. Iced with fondant, the cake flavors were Classic Vanilla Cake filled with Raspberry Compote.
